When Discourse Ends, Violence Begins

Charlie Kirk represented everything that is good about America. He was kind, compassionate, and truly cared for the people he met from all walks of life. He was committed to open debate and free speech. He believed in vigorously defending the truth, but wasn’t judgmental of those who disagreed with him. He was patient with the ignorant who debated him, and forbearing towards the scoundrels who mercilessly heckled, mocked and threatened him.

He founded and led a national movement—aptly named Turning Point—that awakened a generation of young Americans to pursue truth, justice, and righteousness, concepts which the radical Left despise. He was this generation’s prophetic “voice crying in the wilderness,” which sound carried far and wide through social media and thousands of in-person meetings and rallies across the country. He shifted the national landscape by raising the political awareness of millions of young, previously apathetic, voters.

He was a man of peace who loved his God, loved his family, and loved his country.

And they killed him for it.

They killed him not so much because of what he believed, but because he was so effective in communicating it. They could not defeat him with facts or arguments, so they silenced him with an assassin’s bullet. This is always the way of the cowardly and evil.

The murder of Charlie Kirk ranks in infamy with the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. All were prophetic voices in their time, “men of whom the world was not worthy” (Heb. 11:38). In each case, the dark forces ultimately behind the political assassinations wanted to use the martyrs’ deaths to divide the nation and incite violence.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk is a watershed moment for the nation. Where will it lead?

The radical Left want a civil war. They want to see the “extreme Right,” i.e., the Americans labeled by the Biden administration as domestic terrorists simply because they go to church or voted for President Trump, react with escalating violence. The radical Left only knows how to deconstruct, i.e., how to burn down and destroy. They expect that the Right will do the same. But conservatives are better than that. We know how to create, how to build, how to sustain. Our beliefs are based on life and light, while theirs is a cult of death and darkness.

We will defend American values, which at core are Judeo-Christian values. Darkness will not prevail.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk will not be in vain. Charlie followed Jesus Christ, and he was willing to take up his cross and follow Him to Calvary. Charlie knew that death was not the end. The apostle Paul wrote, “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus” (1 Th. 4:13-14).

The blood Charlie Kirk poured out as a sacrifice, will, like the blood of righteous Abel, cry out from the ground for generations to come. Tertullian wrote “the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.” Rather than being intimidated and cowering in fear, Charlie’s courage and sacrifice will inspire a generation of Americans to rise up and stand for truth. Millions will choose to pursue a life of purpose and meaning thanks to Charlie’s inspiration and commitment.

May we each now resolve to live a life worthy of Charlie Kirk’s sacrifice for our nation and for our families.
